For this excerpt, I filmed panning shots of nature to digitally collage them. I then projected them into a corner, adding another directional route. Its function of converging along the wall’s edge is to reclaim the boredom or entrapment that is commonly associated with the corner of a room and replaces it with the freedom or fear that is felt when exploring the outdoors. By drawing attention to nature through textures, slivers of footage are arranged to create a broader landscape. I asked two vocalists Chyna McCoy and Ronson Carr Jr. to sing a chord progression in vibrato. I could then use natural sounds synthetically. Coding with MAX/MSP allows for programmed control of any unwanted glitches by placing them there intentionally. Any paranoia or doubt for moments when you say “What was that in the corner of my eye?” is remedied by the
 comfort of the user’s control.

Process

The burst and  ribbon shapes are inspired by intuitive doodling in my sketchbook.
The gestural strokes became a stress-reliever during the time of production.
Each animation frame-by-frame is handdrawn or extracted from video.

Visitors during this performance would scan a QR Code in Adobe Aero
and use the back of my body as an image target.
